Introducing Zoe Van Spyk

Addition to the Curve Couture team: Take a bow Zoe Van Spyk

Zoe has been diligently interning at Curve Couture studio for about two months and has proved herself invaluable in the run up to Brighton Fashion Week. In fact a corset which she had been working on went in the show, so I hope she is super proud of herself.

I hope that Zoe decides to stay with me a little while longer before she bursts forth and starts her own label, which I am sure is only a matter of time. In the meantime I shall continue to teach her skillz, and as already proved, she is teaching me valued skills in return.

So Zoe, welcome to the creative chaos...

Mermaid shoot for Cliterati

I have had a super busy week.

Apart from client commissions the main thing I have been concentrating on is the Mermaid inspired shoot for online erotic magazine cliterati. For several weeks I have been e-mailing companies to borrow fabulous garments for the shoot, trawling e-bay for must have special things and basically begging and borrowing from my list of contacts as much as possible whilst still staying in their good graces.

I got a group of people that I really enjoyed working with and am pleased that the shoot that day has already gleaned lots of useful contacts for all involved and started friendships that will continue to be fruitful. I feel a little bit proud to have caused this, as well as had the pleasure of working with such fine people and get some stunning photo's too. Mission accomplished.

I haven't yet seen all the photo's but I took a few sneaky shots whilst on set, I simply can't wait to see the final edits.

And indeed the week is not even done! I still have several bikini's to finish for my lovely body builder clients, the red carpet dress to finish and some steampunk nipple pasties to do.

New Website

Today has been a very exciting day.

Aside from having a shoulder injury which has put me out of anything two handed today ( currently slow typing one handed) the new website has just gone live, woohoo! It is still a bit bare boned in terms of content, but all the essential elements are there and for the next month or so I'll be adding loads of new photo's and a shop, so you can directly buy my new designs.

Exciting eh?

I've been receiving lots of samples this week, so I can start costing and ordering my fabrics. Costing up the collection is essencial for it's success, as the Collection must be creative, luxurious and beautiful as well as value for money.

Bella De Jac's Black Marilyn Dress

Bella De Jac is one of the most hard working burlesque performers I have ever met. Not only is she the official burlesque dancer for Pulp Pres Publishing but this year she won 2nd place in the Best UK Newcomer at the London Burlesque Festival.

I first met Bella when she modelled for me at my first Club Smooch show in March earlier his year, and now I am happy to count her as one of my clients. I was especially excited when she approached me for her first costume which was to be a black version of the pink dress Marilyn Monroe wore in Gentleman Prefer Blonde's.


Many watches of Diamonds are a girls best friend frame by frame revealed many things about the construction and further research on the fashion designer Billy Travilla, revealed that the dress was made with only side seams, folded into place and secured with a belt. Woh!


It would have been vastly impractical to have made Bella a true remake so I made several concessions for the benefit of the costumes longevity and the practicality of Bella's performance. A side zip was added, and the dress was mould onto Bella's body using as few pieces as possible, and then the folds stitched into place to retain the shape. Th bow proved to be more of a challenge. We wanted a really big bow, and after several trial sizes in which the bow kept dropping over we found a size we could both live with. The original bow was stuffed with horsehair and ostrich feathers, but I had to be satisfied with some pretty stiff net for now.
