New obsession: beetle wings in fashion

I saw this super cool Pre Raphaelite painting by John Singer Sargent of Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth (1889) in the Tate Britain a few weeks ago. It's funny how the Universe correlates bang on target because I've been seeing a lot of fashion with beetle wings in it lately.

A bit about this dress: This dress was originally designed by Alice Comyns-Carr, and made in crochet by  Ada Nettleship. The original concept of the dress was that it should resemble chain mail armour and was rich in metallic yarn and embroidery and decorated with beetle wings to give it a serpentine theme. Since it's creation 124 years ago, the dress has undergone a £50,000 restoration and now resides at Smallhythe Place .
